Anthony Haughan drove a pair of Ontario-sired three-year-old fillies to Prospect Series victories on Saturday night, Aug. 3 at Hiawatha Horse Park.
Haughan won two of the $8,000 divisions with trotting filly Dontmesswithmama and pacing filly Control The Fire.
A Gold Series winner last year, Dontmesswithmama ($10.90) was looking for the first win of her sophomore campaign and the third time was the charm in Prospect Series action as she went first-over to score in 1:59.1 by 1-3/4 lengths over Abikadabra and favoured Sue Anne. Trainer Blake MacIntosh owns the Muscle Mass filly, who is now a two-time winner from 16 starts, with Van Camp Trotting Corp.
Dropping from the Grassroots level, Control The Fire ($14.30) converted a pocket trip into a 1:54.3 victory as the Control The Moment filly prevailed by a neck over popular pacesetter Distant Lover in 1:54.3 for trainer Meg Crone and owner Janet Brayford. The victory was her fourth in 13 career starts. Catch Some Sun won the show photo.
The other pacing division went to Kiera Seelster ($13.10) in 1:56.1 with Jimmy Gagnon catch-driving the daughter of Sportswriter for her sixth success of the season from 14 starts for trainer Isaac Waxman and owners Tess Waxman and Larry Delellis. Getting clearance from the two-hole turning for home, the late leader held off the closing wrath of Angry Angel by half a length, with pacesetter Ireland Seelster, the longest shot on the board, third and favourite Peeler recovering from an early miscue to get fourth money.
