Lady Newton needed two cracks at her, but she finally got by All Day Sunshine in deep stretch to capture Wednesday’s feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $12,000 filly & mare conditioned pace.
With All Day Sunshine on the point, Lady Newton, the 2-5 favourite, pulled the pocket into the final turn but could not pass the stubborn leader. However, when Aaron Merriman pointed her to the Lightning Lane, Lady Newton found a new gear and downed All Day Sunshine by half a length in 1:52.4. Crisp Mane finished third.
Bill Bercury trains Lady Newton, a four-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou-Im Sassy who lifted her lifetime bankroll to $164,934, for Renee Bercury.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday, with first post at 12:45 p.m.
