Two-year-olds opened Friday night's harness racing program at Woodbine Mohawk Park and B Stoney stole the show with a second quarter move that landed him in the winner's circle.
Driven by Doug McNair in a $14,000 freshman pace, B Stoney got away fourth from the inside post through a :27.3 opening quarter then tracked eventual runner-up Do Ya Think in his move to the lead after an early breaker near the front was taken aside. B Stoney reached the half in :56.1 and paced by three-quarters in 1:25 en route to the one-length victory in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.3. Better Than Cash finished seven lengths behind in third.
The Sunfire Blue Chip-Terror Proof gelding is owned by breeder Doug Millard, trainer Murray Brethour and Barry McClennan.
Now two-for-four in the early stages of his career, B Stoney has also recorded a victory and a close runner-up finish while competing in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots program.
Sent postward as the 6-5 favourite in the field of 10, he returned $4.40 to win.
The Jackpot Hi-5 wager was hit in the Friday night finale with one horseplayer holding the winning ticket consisting of the correct top five order of finish led by 14-1 shot Hot Spot Hanover and 23-1 shot Filly Forty Seven. Twenty Three Red (6-1), Wanda Bayama (7-1) and Hp Pandora (7-1) completed the 8-7-1-10-6 winning combination. The payout was $54,418.15 U.S.
