No Sibling Rivalry For The Givens Brothers

Brothers Wayne and Les Givens have developed their own competitive stables in Seaford, Delaware, but the siblings share respect for one another

– not an ongoing rivalry.

"I'm proud of what Les has done in his career," Wayne Givens, 58, told delwareonline.com. "I think he is one of the best trainers in the state and this whole area."

"You could say Wayne kind of weaned me into the business," said younger brother Les, 49. "I started driving at 19 and I was 23 or so when I really got into the business with my horses. Wayne, he's the one who taught me just about everything."

The Givens brothers’ interest in harness racing stems from their father, the late Melvin Franklin Givens, and has cultivated in Les’ son, Brandon Givens, who recently celebrated his 1,000th driving win at Oceans Downs, and Wayne’s grandson, Blake Baker, an up and coming reinsman.
