The photo finish camera was put to work to determine the winner in Sunday’s lone division of the Boys Of Summer Pacing Series, and after close examination Mcmurray Hanover got the nod by the narrowest of margins.

The two-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Mud Hen sat fourth for the first half of the mile before going on the attack for trainer/driver Robbie Robinson. Mcmurray Hanover sprinted first over and was just a half-length away from Quick And Royal, who took the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:28.1.

Mcmurray Hanover managed to put away that foe without much of a problem, but he needed everything he had in reserve to hold off Tank Murdock, who watched his last second heroics fall short by a nose. Apocalypto had to settle for the show dough this week after winning impressively one week earlier.

Stephanie and Brian Cassell of Ottawa, ON hold the papers on the chestnut colt, who was an $8,000 purchase from last year’s NJ Classic Yearling Sale. It was a maiden-breaking victory for the rookie, who was making his fifth lifetime start.

In other Sunday evening action at Rideau Carleton Raceway, Imjustalittleguy took this week’s edition of the $12,100 Preferred Pace for trainer/driver Ted McDonald. The seven-year-old son of Armbro Operativ front-stepped his way through panels of :27.1, :56.2 and 1:24.4 before cruising home in :29 seconds en route to the 1:53.4 decision.

Sent off at odds of 5-1, the gelding held off race favourite Match Bayama by a half-length margin. Legacy N Diamonds was a distant third in the eight-horse affair.

Lloyd Stone of Portland and Dr. John Tobin of Elgin, ON share ownership on the 28-time winner, who has put together a 5-0-5 record in his first 17 starts of the season. The lion’s share of Sunday’s purse helped his lifetime earnings jump to $218,626.
