Twin B Tuffenuff Takes Charlottetown Preferred

Twin B Tuffenuff sprang from the pocket to defeat top opponents in the $6,250 Preferred Pace on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Gilles Barrieau supplied the winning steer as Twin B Tuffenuff ($11.80) stopped the clock in 1:52 for trainer Ron Matheson and owner Patrick Morris of Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Get Wings and driver Paul Langille controlled the tempo through fractions of :27.1, :55.3 and 1:24 before Twin B Tuffenuff surged past in the final strides to prevail by a half-length. Get Wings finished second, while favoured Miki Shan N (Corey MacPherson) was third.

Twin B Tuffenuff won for the third time this season in 14 starts. The 11-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven-In The Pink stallion has racked up 54 career wins and a bankroll of $851,517 in 236 starts.

The victory was one of three on the program for Matheson. Barrieau also drove his other winners, T H Boomtown ($2.60) in 1:54 and Air Force Hanover ($3.50) in 1:53.4. Air Force Hanover is owned by Woodmere Farms of Marshfield, P.E.I., while T H Boomtown campaigns for Dr. Don Ling and Wayne MacDougall of Stratford, P.E.I. The trainer has won 37 races this season from 151 starts for a win rate of 24.5 per cent.

Marc Campbell led all drivers with four victories on the 13-dash presentation. He opened the card with Proudofyatoday ($2.50) in 1:55.3 for trainer Keith Ford, then guided Rolling All Night ($7) to a 1:59.3 maiden-breaking score for trainer George Rennison. Mr Harris ($4.50) won in 1:57.1 for trainer Earl Watts and Campbell, and that pairing reunited with Starship Glyde ($4.40) in 1:53.1 in the finale.

Ken Murphy recorded three driving victories, including a pair from the Clifford Murphy stable. All Bettor ($3) prevailed in 1:58.1 for that duo, while Redland Sampson ($52.50) delivered the evening’s largest upset with a 1:57.4 score. Murphy also drove Max Patrick ($12.90) to victory in 1:54.2 for trainer-owner Allan Gregory.
