Gifted the perfect pocket ride, Hugh Heff picked off favoured Alritealritealrite in the stretch to prevail in the top class at Northside Downs on Saturday, Aug. 29.
The slight second choice at even money in the $1,600 Winners Over Pace, Hugh Heff got away in second for driver Randy Getto behind 4-5 public choice Alritealritealrite and driver Kevin Bailey. After a :28.2 opener, Alritealritealrite felt overland pressure from Aragonite (Larry Snow) through middle fractions of :57.2 and 1:27.1.
Putting away that challenge, Alritealritealrite then faced the threat of three-wide Thunder Alley (Mark Pezzarello) around the far turn. But before that one could drop back into the two path, Getto angled Hugh Heff from the pocket to take his shot at the leader. Three abreast turning for home, Hugh Heff had the most pace late and surged to the lead in deep stretch for the 1:56.4 score. Alritealritealrite finished second, a half length back, with Thunder Alley competing the triactor ticket.
