Vernon Downs will feature two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Thursday (Aug. 30).
The unbeaten Gimpanzee (Brian Sears) has been installed as the 9-5 morning-line favourite in the $53,500 first division. The Chapter Seven-Steamy Windows colt is trained by Marcus Melander for owners Courant Inc. and S R F Stable. His four wins all came in New York Sire Stakes action, including events at Monticello, Tioga, Saratoga and Yonkers.
The 2-1 second choice in the first division is the Jim Campbell-trained Chapter Fashion (Jason Bartlett). The Chapter Seven-New Hampshire Girl gelding has two wins in five starts for Fashion Farms LLC, including a New York Sire Stakes leg at Yonkers and his Arthur Tompkins Memorial event at Tioga.
In the $54,500 second division of the NYSS, the 2-1 morning-line favourite is Thunder (Jason Bartlett). The Conway Hall-CR Oh Susanna colt is trained by John Butenscoen for Crawford Farms Racing, VIP Internet Stable and Jeremey Day. He has won two legs of the NYSS, at Saratoga and Batavia.
Cavill Hanover (Ake Svanstedt) is the second choice at 3-1. The Muscle Mass-CR Calendar gelding is trained by Svanstedt for owners Little E LLC, Wolfgang A Stable Inc. and Borje Naastrom. He is three-for-five in his young career, winning NYSS legs at Monticello, Tioga and Batavia.
