Somemore Blue slugged it out with her arch-rival Whoomp to secure a victory in the $130,137 seventh leg of the Indiana Sire Stakes for three-year-old filly pacers on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Harrah's Hoosier Park.

From post four in line to Marcus Miller, Somemore Blue lined up two slots inside of favoured Whoomp (John De Long), who rocketed to the front of the eight-horse field in a :26 first quarter. Whoomp held firm in the lead with the rest of the field following in line through the halfway mark in :55.3 and three-quarters in 1:24.3. In the stretch, Somemore Blue fired on Whoomp along the outside and forged ahead late to win this battle in 1:50.2 by a half-length. Whoomp settled for second, while Treacherous Woman (Kyle Wilfong) held for third. In six meetings this season, the series is now tied at three apiece between Somemore Blue and Whoomp, who have alternated victories.

Somemore Blue is trained by Erv Miller for Stepbystep Racing, Ken Duffy, Lava Java Stable and Never 2 Late Stable. The Rockin Image-Misssomebeach Blue filly collected her fifth win of the season in eight outings and improved to 12-for-18, raising her earnings to $726,746. She paid $4.60 to win.

Indiana Sire Stakes action continues on Friday with the two fields of two-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Mr Bear looks to remain undefeated in the first split. The 14-race Friday-night card will feature a $7,979 carryover in the Early Hoosier High Five in Race 7, a $10,000 guaranteed Late Pick 4 and a $10,000 guaranteed Late Hoosier High 5 done in partnership with the USTA’s Strategic Wagering Program.
