Trainer Vernon Beachy swept the $102,740 Ohio Sires Stakes (OHSS) divisions for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings with two near-identical winners on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
Beachy sent out Ready For Moni geldings bought as yearlings by 518 Group LLC, Gitup Racing, Ryan Smith and Todd’s Auto for less than $32,000 and enlisted Ronnie Wrenn Jr. to drive, and both took the lead past the quarter from post five to register victories in 1:54-and-change as the favourites.
“Both raced very good tonight,” said Beachy. “I'm happy with their performances. Need to keep them happy and have good week heading into the finals and finish the year strong.”
The first division had :28.3, :57.4 and 1:26.2 fractions before Mind On My Moni posted a :28 last quarter to cross the line in 1:54.2, three-quarters of a length ahead of Obsessed With Me (Brett Miller). Rolln In Moni (Chris Lems) was third.
Mind On My Moni, out of the Angus Hall mare Jjs Jordyn, now has seven lifetime starts with six wins and $225,039 earned. The win price was $2.10.
Debt Free made the lead shortly after the :28.3 opening quarter in the second division and continued through fractions of :57.4 and 1:26.2. Posting a :27.4 last quarter, Debt Free won by a quarter-length in 1:54.1 over Iluvmymoni (David Miller). Cool Julio (Tyler Smith) was third.
Debt Free, out of the Chapter Seven mare Feesofree, has won four races in a row after finishing second and third in his first two outings. He has now earned $221,412. His backers received $3.80.
“It’s been a great year, better than I could have imagined” said Beachy. “Nice horses and a great team make that possible. It’s been a busy couple of days for sure, but rewarding.”
Over the past two days, Beachy has been a perfect six-for-six in Sires Stakes action across three tracks and two states. The 38-year-old trainer, a resident of New Philadelphia, Ohio, has had a career year in 2026 with 65 wins in 178 purse starts and more than $2.4 million in earnings.
Racing continues Friday and Saturday at Scioto with 16-race cards starting at 5:25 p.m. There will be two $75,000 USD divisions of OHSS action for three-year-old filly pacers on Friday, with Saturday’s card featuring two $75,000 USD divisions each of two-year-old colt and filly pacers and three $50,000 USD splits for three-year-old colt pacers.
Scioto will host Ohio Super Night on Sept. 11-12, with the eight Scarlet and Grey Championships. The Jim Ewart Memorial Pace and Charlie Hill Memorial Trot will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12.
