Richard Rey trainees Reys N A Rocket and Quarter To Noon swept the top spots in the $16,080 Futurity Stakes final on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Killarney while the Trevor Williams stable enjoyed a perfect day of racing with five wins on the undercard.
Driven by Michel Rey, Reys N A Rocket defeated her stablemate Quarter To Noon, who had led throughout panels of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:30.3 with Don Howlett in the sulky. The filly won by one and a half lengths in 2:03.1. Third prize was awarded to Cash Or Cheque, who finished nine lengths back after recovering from an early break in stride.
Richard Rey owns the top two finishers with Janet Rey also co-owning the winner. The homebred Mattarocket-Allamerican Orchid filly, who is undefeated in stakes action, boasts five (consecutive) wins from six starts in her sophomore campaign. He current string of success includes wins in the Lady Crocus, Manitoba Great Western Stakes, and a pair of Silk Lace events. She is now six-for-11 lifetime with earnings totalling $20,239.
Fresh off a Morris record performance last weekend, Red Star Tiger continued his own win streak with a 1:58.3 three-length victory stepping up into the $2,700 Open Pace. He notched his fifth win in a row and completed another super Sunday for the Trevor Williams stable. In fact, it was a perfect day for Williams, who went five-for-five on the card with Howlett doing the driving. The duo also scored with Lissie Borden, Latestngreatest, Kendras Angel and Rocket Power. Latestngreatest's 2:02 triumph set a new track record for three-year-old pacing geldings.
