Keith Pippi's Traverse Seelster ($3.40, Ross Wolfenden) defended his turf as Harrington Raceway's track record holder Wednesday with a 1:55.2 win in the featured $19,000 Open Trot over 'sloppy' conditions.
The five-year-old Angus Hall gelding assumed command early from leader Awsome Valley, who was bidding for his fourth straight win, to an opening quarter-mile of :28-seconds. 'Traverse' strolled through fractions of :57.1 and 1:26.4 and opened up three lengths in the stretch for his seventh win of the year. Awsome Valley held second while Skyway Priss closed ground late for third. Trained by Gary Green, the winner pushed his seasonal bankroll to nearly $110,000.
Ontario Sires Stakes graduate Traverse Seelster set the all-aged track record for trotters earlier this year at Harrington with a dazzling 1:54.1 win on June 26.
Traverse Seelster’s win Wednesday was one of three on the program for Wolfenden.
