Fashion Mystery held on by a neck for a 13-1 upset in Wednesday's $30,000 Fillies & Mares Winners Over Handicap Pace at Harrah's Philadelphia, which included a pair of millionaires among the field.
Driven by Eric Carlson, Fashion Mystery prevailed over second choice Rocklamation (Yannick Gingras) in 1:50.3 with 35-1 longshot Gottaseeaboutagirl (Andy Miller) closing up the inside lane for second two and a half lengths behind and the popular two-time O'Brien Award winner Anndrovette (Tim Tetrick) finishing fourth.
Leaving from the outside post position, Anndrovette worked her way to the lead through a :26.3 opening quarter and then took a second panel breather to the half in :55. But an upset-minded Fashion Mystery swept from fourth to first en route to the 1:22.4 third quarter station with Rocklamation hot on her heels and ready for a stretch duel. Fashion Mystery and Rocklamation battled head-to-head right down to the wire with the former persevering in a photo finish.
Gilbert Garcia-Herrera trains and owns the five-year-old Real Artist mare, who paid $29.20 to win.
Fashion Mystery has gone from $15,000 claimer to defeating some of the sport's top distaffers over the summer months. Wednesday's win was her fifth this season in 18 starts and 12th lifetime, bringing her bankroll to $180,704.
