Silver Dragon picked up his first win at Northside Downs for owner L. David Ratchford of North Sydney, NS since returning from an extended stay in Ontario
. The five-year-old pacer survived a long first over journey to capture Saturday afternoon’s featured $1,000 Winners Over.
Looking for his fifth consecutive win, favourite Andro Peanut and driver Bruce McGean took control of the field from Post 1 and carved out fractions of :28, :56.4 and 1:28 before fading to last as Silver Dragon, with Ratchford in the bike, unleashed a :28.4 final frame to prevail in 1:57 by four and three-quarter lengths. Shifty Shadow (Edgar Jacobs) rallied from the backfield to finish second and Odyssey Killean (Shawn Lynk) finished nine lengths back in third.
Silver Dragon paid $9.40 to win for the third time in 27 starts this year. He returned to the East Coast mid-July for Ratchford, who purchased the Dragon Again-Fancy Art gelding for $9,000 at the Harrisburg Sale as a yearling. Lifetime, Silver Dragon has won 15 times earning $236,364.
