Slots At Michigan Tracks?

That happy prospect was being discussed in the Wolverine state again, as a looming budget deficit has stirred legislators into reconsideration of the public vote against them three years ago.

Chris Locking of Sports Creek Raceway thinks they could bring between $300 and $500 million to the state, without forcing the governor to raise taxes.

Governor Jennifer Granholm says she would welcome slots at tracks if it helped the state, but “whether it’s that mechanism or some other mechanism that will allow for revenue that is dedicated to keeping college affordable for adults, no workers left behind, or kids through scholarships, I think that would be a very wise move.” As long, she added, as it was left up to the voters to reverse their earlier decision.
