Red Shores Charlottetown witnessed some vintage Walter Cheverie driving in the Saturday (August 27) evening's top races.
Cheverie showed his patience in the $2,250 Preferred 2 Pace with his own trainee Nogreatmischief waiting until the head of the lane and circled the field of five for a 1:56.1 victory. Ok Galahad released his stablemate Jeb to lead past the half, but both of the Jason Hughes trainees couldn't hold off the late charge of Nogreatmischief. Cheverie is also the owner of the top class winner with John Thompson.
Ramblinglily returned to her winning ways in the $2,250 Mares Open Handicap Pace with another Cheverie 'worst to first' move. The Allan Jones trainee was saddled with the outside post six and used a brush past the three-quarters to overtake fraction-setter and Spud Island Classic winner Shadows Mystery. Jones co-owns with Norm Leger. "Lily's" 10th win of the season was clocked in 1:56.4.
Veteran reinsman Brian MacPhee had a hat trick on the 10-dash card, winning with All The Weapons, Idealic Life and Celebrate Your Bet. Jason Hughes picked up a driving double on the card.
Racing resumes on Sunday with an action-packed card at Red Shores Summerside featuring the two-year-old colts and fillies in the Joe O'Brien and Lady Slipper Stakes.
