Three-year-old pacing filly Private Performanc pulled off a 10-1 upset in the featured $8,500 Preferred 2-3 Handicap as she defeated a field of older mares on Wednesday night at Grand River Raceway.
Driver James MacDonald moved Private Performanc from seventh into the outer flow third over in front of the grandstand and then rallied three-wide at the third-quarter mark en route to the 1:56.3 victory. The win was her second in three starts this month and matched her season's mark.
Daylon Highlander (Nick Steward) also closed well from the backfield to grab second-place honours, one and a quarter lengths behind the winner, while Shellace (Lorne House) advanced first over to show.
Private Performanc returned $22.80 to her backers at the betting windows. Favourite Eat Me Up (Trevor Henry) had carved out fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.1 before being collared into the final turn by Shellace and fading in the stretch. She finished eighth although the entire field was separated by just four and a half lengths.
Private Performanc now sports a career record reading 8-3-2 in 22 starts with earnings totalling $44,754. The daughter of Western Terror is owned by Robert McIntosh Stables Inc. of Windsor, Ont. and Dave Boyle of Bowmanville, Ont.
