Wagering on the first of two Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will start at noon Thursday, August 29 and continues through 11 p.m. Sunday, September 1 at racetracks and internet sites throughout North America and Europe.
The second future pool will be from 12 p.m. Sunday, September 15 through 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, the first three afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware County Fair.
The minimum future wager is $1.00 and all future wagers are based on win wagers only. The winner of each pool will be determined by the official first place finisher in the 2013 Little Brown Jug to be raced Thursday afternoon, September 19.
A team of harness racing analysts and handicappers have selected a group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt and gelding has been assigned morning line odds based on the selection order. The horses in each of the pools are listed in alphabetical order.
“This is the eighth year for the Jug Future Wager and our fans have been supporting this effort year after year,” said Phil Terry, marketing manager for the Little Brown Jug. “The future wager gives you an opportunity for potentially higher pay-offs than on the actual second heat of the Jug.”
Last year Jug champion Michaels Power paid $32.20 in the first pool, $7.80 in the second pool and paid $4.00 for the second heat.
The Meadowlands Pace and Pepsi North America Cup winner Captaintreacherous (9-5) is the morning line favourite for the first future Jug pool. Purchased as a yearling for $250,000, the son of Somebeachsomewhere has suffered just two defeats by a combined one length. Trained by Tony Alagna, Captaintreacherous has now earned $2.1 million for the Captaintreacherous Racing Stable.
Adios champion Sunfire Blue Chip (4-1) is tied for the second choice with Vegas Vacation.
The last horse to defeat Captaintreacherous, Sunshine Beach is the fourth choice at 6-1.
