Mohawk Racetrack’s race office recruited seven distaffers to contest Friday’s $38,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, and the new gal in town took home
bragging rights.
Meredith Maguire N is her name, and winning was her game for trainer Isaac Waxman, who shares ownership on the four-year-old daughter of Christian Cullen-Alvez with Brenda Selwyn Waxman of Dundas, ON.
Luc Ouellette hustled the mare to the lead from Post 6, and she successfully chopped out fractions of :26.3, :54.4 and 1:22.3 en route to the career-best clocking of 1:50.2. Arts Diva rallied late to grab the runner-up award, and Blissfull Smile came on strong to finish third.
It was third start on North American soil for Meredith Maguire, who was a 1:52.2 winner at Georgian Downs on August 21. The mare is now a seven-time winner in her career. The victory boosted her lifetime earnings to $170,837.
