Radical J J ($8.50) and One Smart Cookie ($7.70) both upended odds-on favourites to break maiden in their respective Ontario Prospect Series events for rookie trotting fillies on Wednesday (Aug. 26) at Grand River Raceway.

Radical J J's 2:04.3 mile in the $7,100 first split took top honours among the 11 rookies to participate across two Prospect divisions. The daughter of Muscle Mass and Radical Janey controlled a soft 1:02.4 first half in line to Scott Young before evading a mild first-over bid from Somewhat Sacy up the backstretch, a three-wide push from Miss Abrakadabra into the far turn, and lastly a stretch charge from 3-5 favourite and eventual runner-up Edgewater.

Radical J J held on by a neck in the end for trainer Shawn Steacy and the partnership of David Reid, A.K. Malik Stable, Carmen Chrysdale and Bruno DiPoce.

One Smart Cookie gave her sire, Muscle Mass, a sweep of the Prospect divisions with a 2:05.2 score in the $7,000 second division. Like Radical J J, One Smart Cookie controlled the terms throughout, rating the first six furlongs in 1:33.3 before digging deep to hold off a late charge from Teacup Hanover by a head. Got The Touch, sent off the 2-5 choice, finished third, beaten only by a half length.

Trainer Connie Chisholm owns One Smart Cookie in partnership with David Chisholm.

In the $8,500 Preferred 3 for pacing mares, So Frisky ($7.50) made every pole a winning one as well and earned her third win in her last four starts. Alfie Carroll protected the lead with the four-year-old Dali mare from the outset and sprinted off decisively through the far turn to turn back 6-5 favourite Larjon Legacy by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:54.1. Anita Ouellette trains the 14-time winner for her owners and breeders, Luc Ouellette and Paul Bernard.
