Undrafted Upsets In Georgian Preferred

A first-over ascent propelled 17-1 outsider Undrafted ($37.70) to a narrow 1:53.2 score over favourite Champagne Phil in Sunday evening's (Aug. 26) $12,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Georgian Downs.

After getting away comfortably in mid-division, Undrafted began his uncovered gains on approach to the clubhouse turn, working closer to a rated :57.1 half before offering pressure to pacesetter Champagne Phil (Scott Coulter) with five-sixteenths to go. The five-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding was under all-out urging from J Harris in the stretch to just collar Champagne Phil in the final stride, while McKinney (Colin Kelly) stayed on well from the pocket for third.

Robert Kyle Fellows trains Undrafted, a winner in three of his last four starts, for owner Louie Sorella.

In the sub-featured $10,000 Preferred 3 Trot, Willyorwonthe ($3.20) lived up to odds-on billing, making every call a winning one in 1:54.2. Alfie Carroll drove the five-year-old Angus Hall gelding for owner-trainer Bill Megens.
