After capturing Wednesday’s co-featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Grand River Raceway, Flora Dream is now two-for-two for trainer David Menary.

With Robert Shepherd in the bike, Flora Dream advanced first up from fourth and was on top by the third quarter mark. The six-year-old daughter of Taurus Dream-Klelia managed to hold off quick-closing Kashas Kid (Simon Allard) to win by a head in 1:58 flat. Big Changes (Greg Dustin) finished three and three-quarter lengths back in third while early pacesetter Zorgwijk Fortunate (J.R. Plante) faded to fourth.

Flora Dream, a winner in her prior start at Flamboro Downs for Menary, returned $3.40 to win as the bettor’s choice. The winner of three races in 13 seasonal starts and over $25,000 is owned by Leo Tourigny of Becancour, QC and Lapharmaciedekedgwick Inc. of Kedgwick, NB. Flora Dream now boasts 17 wins and $245,518 in earnings on her lifetime record.

In the matching Preferred 2 Pace, Acceptable Risk, driven by Trevor Henry, turned back a challenge from Button Up (Mike Horner) past the third quarter mark and held off the pocket pulling Blissfull Breeze (Robert Sparling Jr.) to win by half a length in 1:54.3. The trailing Pacific Oak (Ken Oliver) closed well to grab third.

Acceptable Risk returned $6.40 to win as the 2-1 second choice. Trainer David Morrissey co-owns the seven-year-old son of Intrepid Seelster-Southernbound Lady with Daniel McCann and William Woodburn of Parkhill, ON. Acceptable Risk has won eight times in 25 starts this year banking $68,627. The 36-time career winner sports a bankroll totaling $553,064.
