It turned out to be a battle between the 'Peach' and the 'Beach' in Thursday’s $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series Final for freshmen trotting fillies

at Mohawk Racetrack .

The betting public sent Peach Martini (Rick Zeron) off as the 8-5 choice on the heels of a 1:57.3 victory in last week’s elimination round, but it was another elimination winner, Beach Party AS, rallying to win in 1:57.1 at odds of 27-1 for driver Peter Wallinder.

Beach Party AS was in no hurry in the early going, but that wasn’t the case for Peach Martini. She rolled to the lead from Post 8 and threw down panels of :28.3, :59 and 1:27.4. Beach Party AS, who was well off the speed throughout the mile, kicked home in :28.2 to win by a half-length margin over Peach Martini. Third prize went to Oh Sweet Baby (Mario Baillargeon).

The homebred daughter of Kadabra-Donella AS, who hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Anette Lorentzon, is owned by ACL Stuteri Ab of Paris, KY. The victory was her second in just three tries, and the winner’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings to $85,000.
