Got Sugar has enjoyed the taste of victory of late as the three-year-old pacing filly streaked to her fifth consecutive victory of the season on Sunday, Aug. 25 at The Track On 2.
Driver Phil Giesbrecht was in the bike of the 1-5 bettors' choice in the $3,800 filly & mare $10,000 claimer. Sent away from post six in the field of seven, Giesbrecht landed Got Sugar in the fifth spot on the first turn while Woodmere Arthrjane (Thomas Miller) led to the quarter in :28.1. Got Sugar got her marching orders on the backstretch, wheeling first-over into third 2-1/2 lengths back of Woodmere Arthrjane, who led to the half in :58.1. Got Sugar surged to the lead entering the final turn, wheeling two lengths clear at three-quarters in 1:27.1.
The streak never appeared in doubt in the lane, with Got Sugar pacing strongly through the wire in :28.1 to score by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:55.2. Heart Of Art (Nathan Sobey) rallied for second, with Bneath The Cover (David Kelly) finishing third.
The 1:55.2 clocking equalled the lifetime mark established in her last outing for Got Sugar. A winner in seven of 13 starts this season, the daughter of Odds On Equuleus-Aint She A Sweetie was trained by Terry Kaufman for the entirety of her streak. Got Sugar was claimed for a tag of $17,500 following the victory.
