The road to his 13th straight dash title has been a hard fought one all season for Marc Campbell but he took control again Thursday night (Aug. 25) after a five bagger at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Orwell driver, pictured above in action during Old Home Week, opened and closed the night with victories while recording five wins to give him a one-race advantage over David Dowling for top driver at the capital oval. Campbell won the first dash of the night with the Michelle Myers trained Howmac Blaze (1:58.2), followed by Race 5 with Mds Girl (1:58.2) for trainer Keith Ford and with Striking Pride (1:58.3) from the Paul Morrison barn in Race 6 in the $3,500 Island Oceans Grassroots leg presented by JD Marine & Diving.
Campbell completed the night with wins from his own barn as Cutter Loose (1:58.1) and Filly Forty Seven (1:56) both made trips to the winner’s circle.
JM Sportsfan won the $2,850 Compton-Farber Wedding Celebration Pace with a 1:54.3 front-stepping score for driver Steven Shepherd and co-owner and trainer Harold Shepherd. The four-year-old daughter of Sportswriter is co-owned by Maurice McCabe, John Birt and Wayne MacPherson. Topville Angelina was second ahead of Ill Tell Me Ma.
Dowling had a double as a trainer-driver winning with Red Dirt Hot Shot (2:00.1) and Streakazana (1:59.4).
Victory Now captured the $3,200 All Star Cresting Prospect Trot Series leg in Race 3 with a 2:00.4 score for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Jeff Holmes.
