Grinding first over through most of the mile, Ole Jack Magic put away his competition when scoring by open lengths in the $15,000 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot at Georgian Downs on Tuesday (Aug. 25).

Driver Colin Kelly landed in fourth with Ole Jack Magic while Ramas Last Son, at 23-1, gunned to the lead before a :27.4 first quarter. Y C Broadway, at 38-1, soon vacated pocket and circled to the lead passing the stands as Ramas Last Son started to tire. With the tempo slowing, Kelly tipped the nine-year-old Kadabra gelding off the pegs approaching a :58.1 half and marched uncovered to take a narrow lead by three-quarters in 1:26.4. Y C Broadway began to give way into the final turn, leaving Ole Jack Magic with a cushioned lead into the stretch. He hit the finish five-and-a-half lengths better than CT Conabra closing for second in a 1:55.2 mile while Y C Broadway held third.

Owned and trained by Harold Wilson, Ole Jack Magic won his fifth race from 16 starts this season and his 34th from 185 overall, earning $427,658. He paid $13.40 to win.

Manhattan Night repeated in the co-featured event on the card, a $12,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace.

Sitting last in the field of six by a :26.4 first quarter, Manhattan Night inherited a position passing the stands when OK Jasmine made a break from fifth. The four-year-old Dali mare stuck to the back past a :56.1 half before tracking the first-over move by YS Tallia moving into the backside. Casmir Swamp Girl—the 6-5 favourite—led every step through three-quarters in 1:25 but failed to turn away the two-wide charge into the stretch. YS Tallia continued to push for the front but Manhattan Night outkicked her cover in the lane, sticking a head in front to win in 1:53.1. Casimir Swamp Girl finished third.

Owned by Luc Ouellette Incorporated and Alan Alber, Manhattan Night won her fourth race from 16 starts this season and her 11th from 39 overall, earning $117,099. Travis Henry drove the $6.10 winner for trainer Anita Ouellette.
