Two-year-old trotting filly Seeuinthespring made a big splash with her first career win as she pulled off a 25-1 upset in the $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final while setting a new divisional track record at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Friday night.

With the inside post position, driver Anthony MacDonald sent Seeuinthespring to command off the gate and carved out fractions of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:27 en route to the 1:57.1 triumph. Legzy (Sylvain Filion), the 4-5 favourite, advanced first up as the fillies moved in front of the grandstand for the first time, but Seeuinthespring was still a full length clear entering the stretch and was never seriously threatened by that filly. However, the pocket-pulling Angies Lucky Star (Trevor Henry) came close, missing by just a neck while second choice Charmed Life (Stephen Bryon) finished three-quarters of a length behind. Legzy faded to fourth.

Seeuinthespring held on for her first win in six career starts and shaved two-fifths of a second off the track record for freshman filly pacers, which was held by Circles and Miss Paris. It also equalled Torch's Canadian record on a five-eighths mile track, set at Kawartha Downs.

After breaking stride in three prior Gold Series eliminations, Seeuinthspring was on her best behaviour in her fourth attempt last week and finished second behind Charmed Life to earn her spot in Friday's final. The victory boosts her bankroll to $85,200.

The winners were: Buddy Hall (Angus Hall-Credibility) in 2:01; Muscle Max (Muscle Mass-Aimees Image) in 2:01.1; Home Brew (Angus Hall-Martini Time) in 2:01.2; Kennel Buddy (Ken Warkentin-Bernice Daniece) in 2:00; Time Passes D (Angus Hall-Impasse) in 2:00.3; Green Strike (Striking Sahbra-Win Some Way) in 2:02.1; and North York (Duke Of York-Wescott) in 2:01.3.
