Icy Blue Scooter Repeats At Century

Trainer-driver Nate Sobey ground uncovered with Icy Blue Scooter to nab a consecutive victory in the $8,100 Open Pace at Century Downs on Tuesday (Aug. 24).

Landing in fourth to a :27.3 first quarter, Icy Blue Scooter tipped first over into a :57 half set by 7-5 favourite Armycaptin Hanover. He cruised forward to match strides with the pacesetter passing three-quarters in 1:25.1 and remained in a stubborn duel throughout the final turn. Armycaptin Hanover continued to battle at the pegs while second-over Retros Mystery rallied off cover into the stretch drive, but Icy Blue Scooter edged to a half-length victory in a 1:53 mile. Retros Mystery took second while Armycaptin Hanover settled for third.

Co-owned by Sobey with Diane Bertrand and Robert Gilhespy, Icy Blue Scooter won his third race from nine starts this season and his 32nd from 154 overall, earning $252,770. The eight-year-old Blue Burner gelding paid $7.10 to win.

Lady Neigh Neigh lunged from a stalking trip to take the co-featured $8,100 fillies & mares conditioned pace in 1:54.4. The five-year-old Bettors Delight mare rode pocket through early fractions of :28.1 and :57.1 until driver Brandon Campbell swung the Chris Lancaster trainee to the center of the track and circumvented tiring leader Rockin Mystery moving to three-quarters in 1:25.3. From there, Lady Neigh Neigh strode to the finish two lengths better than Tajmeallover, who closed for second. Good Day Is Coming took third.

Owned by Christopher Lambie and Chris Lancaster, Lady Neigh Neigh won her first race from seven starts this season and her 20th from 47 overall, earning $184,938. She paid $13.20 to win.
