Angélique Richer’s enthusiasm and grasp of the racing industry clearly made an impression on the Quebec Jockey Club. It has hired her as director of marketing.
Richer, 38, the sparkplug behind the well-received TV series on Quebec racing ‘Des hommes, des chevaux et du cash,’ will do the job part-time from mid-September until January and full-time thereafter.
“I have some work to finish first in the (broadcast media) industry,” she said. “I’ve been in this business 20 years. I couldn’t just sweep everything aside.”
Richer said the offer fit well with her career goals, since she’s currently studying for a degree in management and administration at Montreal business school Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales.
“I like, too, that there’s a link to what I’m doing now. Both are in the entertainment world,” she said.
Richer, who researched racing for three years for the TV series, said it’s an industry “that needs help” and new approaches.
“It’s a scary challenge,” she said, “but at the same time inspiring and exciting. My only objective is to help this industry get back up.”
The QJC also announced on the weekend that Vincent Trudel’s mandate as general manager has been extended for another two years.
