It was a disappointing foray to Flamboro Downs on Sunday, August 15 for Dreamlands Art, who finished eighth in his elimination heat of the Confederation Cup
. His return to Mohawk Racetrack on Monday evening, however, had a much happier ending.
Dreamlands Art powered to a 1:49.3 score in a $20,000 conditioned assignment for Rene Laarman, who conditions the three-year-old homebred for Glenview Livestock Ltd of Wallenstein, ON.
Rick Zeron treated the son of Artsplace-Dreamlands Hardie to a perfect two-hole trip behind early fractions of :26 and :54.1 before calling on his charge to go into attack mode. When the colt was asked for speed he complied and wheeled his teamster past the three-quarter pole in 1:22.1 before tacking on a :27.2 final frame for good measure.
“We’ve got the Simcoe which goes a week from Saturday, and hopefully if he continues to go forward we’ll race him in the Jug,” trainer Rene Laarman told Trot Insider. “I said before the race that he was going to have step up and show us a bit more, and he did. He just hasn’t been 100% since he got sick in New Jersey. He came back from Jersey with pimples and mucous, but it looks like he might be starting to finally come around.”
The victory was the fourth of the season in 11 trips postward for Dreamlands Art, who has stashed away $71,390 in lifetime earnings.
