Stalking the favourite as he set the tempo, Majian Tango pulled first over moving to the final turn and advanced to a one-and-three-quarter lengths victory in the $1,800 Open Trot at Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday, Aug. 23.
Frill Seeker, the odds-one choice, led the field by two-and-a-half lengths to the first quarter in :30.1. He remained unchallenged past the half in :59.3 while Majian Tango trotted five lengths off the lead entering the final lap.
Trainer-driver James Ripley angled off the rail in pursuit of Frill Seeker heading to three-quarters and trotted to within a length of the lead following the 1:30.1 clocking. Majian Tango gradually put away the favourite around the final turn and into stretch in progress to a 1:59.3 victory. Glencove Carter, tracking the winner into the final turn, chased in third.
Owned by Marylea Ripley, Majian Tango, a four-year-old gelding by Tad The Stud from the Dancers Victory mare Askmetodance, won his second race in six starts and his 12th in 26 overall, earning $34,701. He paid $6.20 to win.
