Euchred Trumps Field

When owner, trainer George Robinson claimed Euchred in July, he had high hopes that he had picked out another good one.

"I had great respect for previous trainer Pat Sheppard, and believed he had a great sense for those horses that could make money; so, I put up the $9,000 to claim him in Clinton,” Robinson explained. “My first start was a big disappointment, as he broke stride before the start, and finished last, but I brought him home to my southwestern Ontario circuit to get him untracked."

In Dresden, the three-year-old son of Shadow Play-Tipsy Taters won by more than 20 lengths. On Sunday at Leamington, Euchred left his foes in the dust. He won by 13 lengths in 1:56.4 with Nick Steward in the bike.

Stewards' three wins on the day were matched by Rob Sparling Jr.'s three wins.

London trainer Larry Johnson finally saw his Conflict Diamond get some respect (he won nine races last year). Conflict Diamond had been racing on the dull side until he returned to Leamington where he was impressive all last season. The five-year-old son of Badlands Hanover came from far back at the top of the stretch to win going away in 1:58.4. He was driven by Tyler Borth, who won two on the afternoon card.

Next Sunday, the track will be asking fans to wear their best 'Derby" hat to win prizes.

First-race post time for the card will be 1:30 p.m.
