Gural On Atlantic City, Big M, Casinos

"I think there will be a casino at the Meadowlands. I don't know who is going to own it. I would like to own it, but, obviously, there has been nothing that has been said."

Those are the words of Meadowlands Racetrack Chairman Jeff Gural, spoken while in conversation with Mike Schneider for NJ Today

In addition to discussing the strides the Meadowlands made in 2013 in terms of handle, Gural also explained that the annual hip-hop festival 'Rock The Bells' will be held at the Meadowlands Racetrack this October.

When asked whether there has been any new, state-level discussions about bringing a casino to the Meadowlands, Gural said, "Not at all."

He added, "The Governor's position has always been that he wants to wait five years --- give Atlantic City five years; we're in the third year. I would be lying if I said I haven't been encouraged by the fact that Atlantic City isn't doing particularly well. Revel, obviously, has been a surprise failure --- I thought Revel would actually be a success."

Gural went on to say, “I think having 12 casinos in one city in the state (Atlantic City) versus the New York or Pennsylvania model where you have the casinos located all over the state… it seems illogical that you’d have them all in one place."
