On Thursday, August 23, the Ontario Racing Commission announced that it has approved a request by the operators of Windsor Raceway to cancel the track's racing license.
An ORC release has explained that on August 15, 2012, the commission received a letter from Windsor Raceway providing notice of its intention to return its ORC licence; and that the ORC also received confirmation that the horsepeople under contract have been advised of Windsor Raceway’s request for cancellation of its ORC licence.
The contents of the ORC releases appear below.
Windsor Raceway Purse Monies to be held in trust by ORC
As one of the conditions set by the Director regarding the cancellation of Windsor Raceway’s ORC licence, the Director has ordered that all Windsor purse monies shall be forwarded to the ORC to be held in trust for Standardbred Horsepeople.
These monies include the transfer of the current purse account as well as any funds earned or due to the Purse Account subsequent to those funds transferred.
According to the authority resting with the Director under the Racing Commission Act, 2000, the ORC is committed to acting in the best interests of all participants in the Ontario horse racing industry.
As stated in previous Notices to the Industry, any monies held in purse accounts will only be used for the benefit of Standardbred Horsepeople. Any decision on how, and in what way, purse money will be allocated will only be made in consultation with horsepeople.

Unreal, but not surprised. It seems not a lot shocks me anymore.
Thanks Peggy, yes I am organizing a distribution group for this Wednesday, August 29 in Kitchener-Waterloo to hand out some flyers. Please feel free to print some off and join us. http://bit.ly/Nb298X If you'd like to take part, contact me via Facebook.
If you live in or around the Vaughan area or any area for that matter, we need your help as well. Print some off, take a few friends and spread the word!
Also, the PC party is looking for volunteers to canvass in K/W. Contact Brian Tropea or the PC campaign office for more info.
Hopefully we can salvage what's left of horseracing by putting forth a MUCH needed effort by the horsemen! Join the fight, it's not too late.

Killing the horse race
Killing the horse race industry? Or is it-killing the harness racing industry? Were thoroughbreds racing at these tracks that are closing? I don't follow the thoroughbreds so don't know where they race in Ontario.
The real shock comes on

What now becomes of Dresden &
What now becomes of Dresden & Woodstock ? They are both run by Windsor Rcwy ( WinRac )
Would they both now become defunct ? If their racing license is cancelled are they not one and the same ?
Just curious as to their status now !
Maybe this might be a good
Maybe this might be a good time for Leamington to go after Windsor's race license and conduct racing in the south-western area of our province and when the Liberals are defeated, they can up-grade, as time goes by, by working with the horsemen and women. That would be a whole new concept instead of the greed we have going on now.
Wouldn't you think that the
Wouldn't you think that the ONTARIO RACING COMMISSION would tell them to wait untill we know the results of the two upcoming by-elections or at least until the long awaited report from our transitional panel becomes public before they close their doors. I quess they know more then we do.To them it is a foregone conclusion that our Industry is done. Not to me . Not yet. Get in touch with Brian Tropea or Christine Arlidge. They are organizing a group of people to hand out flyers in the Kitchener-Waterloo riding & also in the Vaughan riding
