Odds-on favourite American History took control into the backstretch and faced little threat from there, coasting to a 1:48.4 win in the $36,000 Preferred Handicap Pace on Saturday (Aug. 22) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Matticulous GB took the field to the quarter in :26.1 with Wheels On Fire sitting in the pocket and American History positioned fourth. Driver Bob McClure then angled the five-year-old American Ideal stallion off the pylons and brushed to the lead before a :55 half. The Tony Alagna pupil sped through the remainder of the mile, hitting three-quarters in 1:22.2 and widening to a three-length win over Matticulous GB. Wheels On Fire gave chase in third.
Owned by Brittany Farms LLC, Marvin Katz and American History Racing, American History won his second race from six starts this season and his 18th from 50 overall, earning $1,223,297. He paid $3.50 to win.
