The betting public fell in love with Saulsbrook Peach – pari-mutuelly speaking – in Monday’s $7,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers, and the gelding didn’t let down his backers.

Saulsbrook Peach, who was sent off at odds of 8-5, powered to the top from Post 5 and never relinquished the top spot. He carved out very sensible first-half fractions of :28.1 and :58.3 before going into sprint mode. He hustled to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4 before launching home in :27.3 to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Lovedancinwithyou in 1:54.2. Sabine Pass rallied off cover late and wound up third.

The seven-year-old son of Royal Mattjesty-Atlanta Girl was driven to victory by Robert Shepherd. The Isabelle Darveau pupil has compiled a 7-4-6 record from 28 trips to the track this season for owner Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, QC. He’s just shy of $95,000 in lifetime earnings.
