It was a record-breaking night at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway on Saturday evening, as the track’s trotting mark was bested and the pacing record tied

.

Scorpion Moon pulled off the mild upset in the $66,000 August Fun Trotting Series Final for driver Dan Cappello, Jr., as the veteran trotter outsprinted his rivals home to record the 1:54 victory. The track record time of 1:54.4 was set just a week before, when A Crown For Lindy dazzled in impressive fashion.

Scorpion Moon is trained by Tracy Brainard, who co-owns with Andrew Herzog.

The track record on the pace was matched on the evening, as well, in New York Sire Stakes competition, as Joey The Czar sprinted away from his rivals to register a six-length win and register a 1:51 clocking. The win time matched the all-time track record at Saratoga, set by Rare Jewel in 2006 and matched by Gimmebackmybullets in 2007.

The $124,000 Joe Gerrity, Jr. Pacing Series Final, also contested on Saturday night, was won by Arts Ragin Jet and Brett Miller, who wired the field in 1:52.2 to score the victory in the race with the biggest purse of the year to date at the track.
