Beachy Best In GLADA Trot

Despite being parked the entire mile, Shake It Off Lindy rallied to a 1:55.4 victory to win the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association (GLADA) Trot on Saturday (Aug. 21) at Northfield Park.

Owned, trained and driven by Vernon Beachy, the seven-year-old son of Crazed was sent the second choice in the nine-horse field.

When the gate sprung, Don Sherman sent Soho Begonia to the lead from the seven hole, and they had three lengths on the field when they passed the first quarter in :28.1. In the meantime, Beachy sent Shake It Off Lindy toward the front from the five hole but they never saw the pylons and were relegated to race on the rim.

Sherman kept the pedal to the metal and parked Beachy's trotter past the half in :57.3. And when they trotted by the three quarters in 1:26.4, Soho Begonia was still in command. But when they rounded the final turn, Kelly Walker — who had Bigboy Rosco second in the pocket all along — moved out to challenge the leader but could get no closer and finished a length behind Shake It Off Lindy. Soho Begonia held on for the show dough.

Shake It Off Lindy returned a $5.80 win mutuel.
