Y A Muscle Mass ($2.90) made his return to Grand River Raceway a winning one, capturing the featured $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot on Wednesday night (Aug. 21).
The four-year-old son of Muscle Mass floated forward from post three to secure a tracking spot behind Ionia (J Harris) and Bank Guard (Anthony Haughan) through early sectionals of :27.4 and :57.4. With seven-sixteenths to go, Robert Shepherd angled Y A Muscle Mass first-over to avoid being locked in by Dominum Deo (Scott Coulter), and the pair accelerated forward on the clubhouse turn before seizing command from Ionia through three-quarters in 1:27.1.
After putting Ionia away with ease, Y A Muscle Mass continued to edge clear while pursued by Dominum Deo. In all, Y A Muscle Mass defeated Dominum Deo by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:57.1, while Cold Beer Here (Colin Kelly) stalked third-over cover to take third.
