Trainer Dean Nixon teamed up with driver Bob McClure to score back-to-back wins in the Preferred co-features on Saturday night (August 20) at Georgian Downs as favourites Rubis Prescott ($2.40) and Hex ($3.60) were victorious in their respective assignments.
ICR Racing's Rubis Prescott went wire-to-wire in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace, earning her second win out of her last three starts in this class. The six-year-old Mach Three mare fired out from post five through a :26.4 opening quarter before stealing a second quarter breather to the half in :56.4. She continued on to three-quarters in 1:24.2 with first over pressure, but scooted away down the stretch to win by three and a half lengths in a season's-best 1:52.3. Boat House Row and Kyles Secret advanced in the outer flow to finish second and third, respectively.
Hex prevailed off a three-hole trip in the $7,500 Preferred 3, tipping out behind the pocket-pulling Palm Patrol and fanning three-wide into the stretch to score over fellow late-closer Russian Kisses in 1:54 by three-quarters of a length. Palm Patrol out-finished pacesetter Dazzle N Delight (:26.1, :56.2, 1:24.3) for the third-place honours. The four-year-old Shark Gesture mare Hex, who was beaten by just a nose in Grand River Raceway's Preferred 3 class on Wednesday, is owned by Earl Hill Jr.
The Nixon stable went two-for-two on the Saturday night card, while McClure won four of his 10 drives. Georgian Downs' season-leading reinsman also won back-to-back races earlier in the night with the Michel Rivest-trained Romance In Camelot and Emmy Hanover from the Cindy Horner stable.
