After stamping himself as one of the top sophomores in last year’s O.S.S. program, Equity took his show on the road Saturday evening in an attempt to pick up his first victory as a four-year-old
.
The venue was Georgian Downs and the class was the $14,000 Preferred Trot for the Charalambos Christoforou-trained son of Kadabra-Earl Of My Dreams, and the end result was a driving off victory in 1:55.3 for the gelding.
Equity, in rein to driver Dan Clements, was allowed to settle away sixth while Countess Stormont rushed the field to the quarter pole in :27.2. She was still in command at the half in :57.3, but backfield pressure was looming in the form of Bank President and Equity.
Bank President was knocking at the door as Countess Stormont put up a 1:26.4 three-quarter clocking, but both trotters were being eyeballed by Equity who was sitting chilly on a second over trip. When Clements pulled the trigger Equity found another gear and trotted home in :28.2 to post the 1:55.3 win. It was 2-3/4 lengths back to runner-up Chinnys Wings. Aloft finished third.
Bred and owned by Christoforou and the Banjo Farms, Equity improved this year’s record to 1-1-2 in five trips postward with the win. It was the trotter’s twelfth lifetime tally and the $7,000 payday bumped his bankroll to $509,760.
