Neon Lights Tops Rideau Trotters Again

Neon Lights racked up his sixth Preferred win of the season at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening (August 19) for trainer Gerard Demers.

In the $8,100 co-featured trot, Neon Lights ($2.80) forged ahead of his five rivals from the outside post, touching down on top at the :27.3 quarter pole. The 2-5 favourite maintained a clear lead as he trotted past the half in :56.4 and three-quarters in 1:26.1 before holding off the pocket-pulling Pasedena Star in the drive to the wire by a neck in 1:56.1. Flying Isa N edged out Ifihadabrain for third.

Jonathan Lachance drove the four-year-old Chapter Seven-Flourescent gelding, who has earned seven of his 10 career wins this year, for owner La Ferme Tag Inc.

Leaving out from post three in the matching Preferred Handicap for pacers, Atomic Million AM ($9.30) was overtaken by 6-5 favourite Cobalt Man past the :27.1 quarter mark. He played 'follow the leader' through middle splits of :56.3 and 1:25.2 while National Debt took on Cobalt Man up front then charged through the passing lane to prevail in 1:53.2, with his final quarter clocked in :27.2. National Debt came on strong at the end to finish second, one length back, with Cobalt Man holding on for third over C L Art Magic.

Atomic Million AM notched his fourth win of the season and 32nd overall.
Alain Martin trains and owns the seven-year-old Million Dollar Cam-Lady Rod Hustler gelding, who was driven by Marie Claude Auger.
