Driver J Harris was in the winner’s circle after half of the 10 carded races at Georgian Downs on Saturday, Aug. 1.
After finishing second in his first two drives, Harris scored with Th Penelope ($6.50) in the fourth race. He fired the two-year-old filly three lengths clear in the first quarter, then yielded to sit the pocket until angling the Pamela Goodale trainee out on the far turn and lifting her to a head victory in 1:57.2.
The reinsman finished third in his next appearance, then dominated three races in a row with speed tactics. He took the sixth with Power Wash ($7.90), sending the sophomore filly to the front despite post seven and seeing out an easy 2-1/2-length victory for the Blair Burgess trainee in 1:54.1. Western Wish ($2.60) romped in the seventh for trainer Carmen Auciello as the eight-year-old mare proved 4-1/4 lengths the best in 1:52.2. Saulsbrook Olympia ($2.10) completed the natural hat trick for Harris, circling to the top before the quarter and leading all the way from there to win wrapped up by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.3 for trainer Vernon Cochrane.
Harris went back to the top in the finale to get Allstar Twinkle ($7.90) home a three-length, 1:55 winner for Goodale. In nine drives, he won five and took two seconds and a third for a card UDRS of .716.
Harris boosted his seasonal record to 68-for-481 and shot up to fifth in the Georgian standings, now 11 back of leader Brady Galliers. The Guelph, Ont.-based reinsman, who debuted in 2005, now has 2,599 career victories.
