Brodie Le Cain scored the first-ever driving win of his career when he teamed Barefoot Belle to an 11-1 upset in the final race on Saturday, Aug. 2 at Georgian Downs, an $8,000 claiming pace for fillies and mares.
After sitting patiently in mid-division through a :57.4 half, Le Cain angled Barefoot Belle out with seven-sixteenths to go and the pair was forced three-wide into the far turn around a stalled first-over bid from Dandys Showtime (Nello Guglielmi) at three-quarters in 1:26.2. The four-year-old Betting Line-Barefoot Beauty mare continued to lift through the stretch under steady urging and narrowly collared pacesetter Allstar Willow to win in 1:56.4.
Le Cain, a 24-year-old resident of Guelph, Ont., drove Barefoot Belle, who paid $25.10 to win, to the seventh victory of her career and her first for owner/trainer Bruno Lacroce.
