Sotally Tober kept Ghost Pine at bay through a third quarter sprint and held off the favourites to win Sunday afternoon's $10,000 Open for three and four-year-old pacers at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.
Defying his double-digits odds, 10-1 longshot Sotally Tober took the lead from post two and fronted the field of five through opening fractions of :28 and :58.4. He then held off 3-5 second choice Ghost Pine through three-quarters in 1:25.4 and down the stretch for the half-length victory in 1:53.3. The streaking sophomore First Class Horse, sent postward as the 7-5 favourite, closed off cover to finish third in his return to the races after a two-month layoff.
Sotally Tober returned $23.30 to win for the fourth time in 13 starts this year.
The As Promised gelding is trained and driven by Jamie Gray, who also co-owns with Edmonton owners Diane Bertrand and Robert Gilhespy.
