Somewhere In L A wired his foes Saturday, Aug. 19, winning Yonkers Raceway’s $44,000 Open Handicap Pace.
Somewhere In L A—from post five—threw down intervals of :26.2, 55.4 and 1:23. He whipped a pocketed McErlean by a length in 1:51.4, with Theartofconfusion A, Techtor Hanover and Always At My Place rounding out the payees.
For Somewhere In L A, a seven-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding co-owned by D’Elegance Stable IX, Carmen Iannacone, T L P & Gandolfo Stables and trained by Richard Banca, it was his eighth win in 20 starts this sesaon. Driven by Jason Bartlett, he paid $6.10 to win. The exacta paid $32.20, the triple returned $102 and the superfecta paid $397.
It was one of Bartlett’s six wins during the dozen-race card.
Driver Brian Sears won thrice while New Zealand driving-champion Dexter Dunn began his stateside odyssey with a pair of drives. Dunn finished third as an odds-on favourite and seventh with an outsider.
The Sunday, Aug. 19 matinee has a first post of 12:35 p.m., with races one through four of ‘French’ theme, two at the mile-and-a-quarter and two at the mile-and-a-half distance. The ‘New York, New York Double’ is comprised of Saratoga’s first race and Yonkers’ third. Post times are 1 p.m. and 1:35 p.m., respectively.
