Sixty-nine-year-old Peoria, Illinois resident Ralph Gauwitz, Jr. was honoured Tuesday, August 18 at the Illinois State Fair. Gauwitz has been an institution in the Illinois racing scene for more than 50 years.
“He’s probably the single-most knowledgeable person on the history of Illinois racing and famous horses. He knows it all,” Dean Hoffman was quoted as saying in an article by The State Journal-Register. “He just lives and kind of eats and breathes Illinois harness racing and harness racing in general.’’
