
Mythic Gambler overcame post eight and beat favourite The Light Speed to win his second straight $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 17.
He got away sixth in the seven-horse field while The Light Speed was parked through the first quarter of :27, used hard by Guy Gagnon to make the lead. Mythic Gambler left the pylons approaching the half in :55.4 and flushed out Light The Torch (Pascal Berube), who towed him down the backstretch before Mythic Gambler tipped three-wide at three-quarters in 1:24.2.
Mythic Gambler tore off his cover and forged past The Light Speed down the stretch, going clear by a half-length to win in 1:52.4. Major Fernco N (Marie-Claude Auger) finished third. The winner paid $6.30.
Trained by Catherine Girard, Mythic Gambler improved to six-for-10 this year with five wins in the Rideau Preferred class. The son of Bettors Delight-Mythical, owned by Kozen Farms of La Prairie, Que., has recorded 18 victories in 29 starts and $90,292 in earnings.
No Time At All upset at 13-1 in the $10,000 third leg of the Hard Rocking Summer Claiming Series as he left the pocket at the head of the stretch and chased down heavy favourite Fancy Lettering (Gagnon) to win in 1:55.2. Mach Art In Motion (Mike Healey) finished third in the event for $12,000 claimers. Pascal Berube piloted the winning 10-year-old son of Big Jim-Shirley Hall for trainer Yves Tessier, who co-owns the gelding with owners Jean Allaire and Gina Bragagnolo.
Trainer Mandy Archer sent out a trio of winners on the 10-race card: Caviart Seacrest ($3.80) in 1:54.1 in the third race, Early Action ($4.40) in 1:54.4 in Race 6, and The Wicked One ($2.20) in the eighth race in a 1:56.3 mile. Archer has won 30 per cent of her races this season, with 64 total victories. The Kenmore, Ont.-based trainer now leads the Rideau standings by 20 wins.
