Workinitonbroadway headlined the first Preferred event of the 2024 Leamington Raceway meet on the Sunday, Aug. 18 matinee for trainer/driver Don Rankin Jr.
With the inside post assignment in the afternoon's featured $4,800 Preferred Handicap Trot, Workinitonbroadway and Rankin protected pylon position and pocketed the leaving Zack To The Max (Andy Moore) through a :28.2 opening quarter then cruised to the half in :59.4 before facing another challenge from Shouldaknownbetter (Anthony Hamlin). Workinitonbroadway kept that first-over rival at bay as they raced by three-quarters in 1:30.2 and strutted away through the stretch to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 2:01.1. Hot Fudge Sundae (Alfie Carroll) closed off cover to take second place over favourite Wrap And A Hooey (Garrett Rooney), with Shouldaknownbetter fading to fourth.
A six-time winner this year, Workinitonbroadway has won 49 races and $394,461 in his career. Rankin co-owns the eight-year-old son of Broadway Hall with Chris Hadrian of Lasalle, Ont.
Workinitonbroadway paid $6.60 to win as the 2-1 third choice.
