Freshman pacing fillies were in the spotlight Thursday evening at the Charlottetown Driving Park as the half-miler oval hosted five divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes.
A set of $13,380 ‘A’ splits went postward in addition to a trio of $2,500 ‘B’ divisions.
Elm Grove Misty used her rallying skills to take her ‘A’ division assignment in 2:00.1 for trainer/driver Dave Kelly. The daughter of Stonebridge Terror-Elm Grove Starlite kicked home in :28.4 to win by a neck over Woodmere Wyldstyle. Recovering from an early miscue to finish third was Woodmere Chella.
Sent off at odds of 8-1, Elm Grove Misty improved her rookie record to 2-1-1 from six starts for Kelly and partner Charlene Cypher. The victory bumped her earnings over $10,000.
Woodmere Ceilidh also used come-from-behind tactics to take home top prize in her $13,380 ‘A’ division for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald.
The daughter of Articulator-Highland Dancer tracked cover in the middle stages of the mile before kicking off cover and using a :28.4 final quarter to win by three-quarters of a length over Royaltywestho in 1:59.2. Chocolate Terror rounded out the top three finishers.
Chris Neville of Sydney, NS owns the maiden-breaking youngster who now owns a 1-2-2 record from five trips postward. She’s potted over $13,000 along the way.
Winning their respective $2,500 ‘B’ divisions were Gigolos Rose (2:01.2), Evening Maelstrom (2:04.3) and W C Nellie J (2:03.3).
